MPEG Video Traffic Models: Sequentially Modulated Self-Similar Processes
نویسندگان
چکیده
1 New traffic models are called for to facilitate the design of effective admission and flow control algorithms, and network performance evaluation in accommodating video traffic. We propose a new approach, sequentially modulated self-similar processes (SMSSPs), to model MPEG coded video traffic. SMSSPs are shown to be able to capture both short range dependency (SRD) and long range dependency (LRD) of the video traffic accurately. Traffic data are decomposed according to the MPEG data structure, into several parts, each modeled as a self-similar process. These processes are then modulated sequentially in a manner similar to how the frames are grouped into the GOP (Group of Pictures) pattern.

Modeling MPEG Coded Video Traffic by Markov-Modulated Self-Similar Processes
Markov modulated self-similar processes are proposed to model MPEG video sequences that can capture the LRD (Long Range Dependency) characteristics of video ACF (Auto-Correlation Function). The basic idea is to decompose an MPEG compressed video sequence into three parts according to different motion/content complexity such that each part can individually be described by a self-similar process....
متن کاملOn modeling MPEG video traffics
This paper traces the development/evolution of three of our recently proposed MPEG coded video traffic models, that can capture the statistical properties of MPEG video data. The basic ideas behind these models are to decompose an MPEG compressed video sequence into several parts according to motion/scene complexity or data structure. Each part is described by a self-similar process. These diff...
متن کاملModeling and Generation of Self-similar Behavior of Mpeg-4 Video Traffic Using Chaotic Maps Method
The rise in popularity of the Internet, and specially the World Web Wide, has resulted in the web browser becoming the most commonly used Internet application. This popularity has driven the increase in multimedia applications with streaming audio and video players becoming almost ubiquitous. These audio and video traffics represent a new class of Internet traffic, which will increase with intr...
متن کاملModeling the self-similar behavior of packetized MPEG-4 video using wavelet-based methods
Video streaming has already been very popular on the Internet through services such as news bulletins from different parts of the world and on-demand music-video clips. With rapidly developing wireless technologies, video streaming to mobile devices will be very common. In this paper, we investigate the self-similar scaling behavior that is present in variable bit rate (VBR) MPEG4 video. As the...

In this paper we study source modeling, queueing analysis and bandwidth allocation issues of VBR MPEG-2 video traffic in ATM networks. We propose a mini-source based discrete-time Markov modulated deterministic process (D-MMDP) to model the macro-frame smoothed VBR MPEG-2 traffic. It is shown that such a modeling technique is sufficiently accurate and simplies the involved queueing analysis for...
